About this calculator
This calculator converts a total number of hours into working days based on your daily work-hour length. Enter any number of hours and the hours per work day, and it returns net work days, whole days plus leftover hours, and the equivalent number of 5-day work weeks. It’s ideal for PTO math, project scoping, contractor staffing, and salary-to-day conversions.
How to convert hours to working days
Divide the total hours by your daily work-hour length. That’s the whole calculation.

The calculator also shows whole days + leftover hours and the equivalent number of 5-day work weeks so you can paste the right format into your timesheet, PTO tracker, or project plan.

Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about converting hours to work days.
Divide the total number of hours by the hours you work per day. For a standard 8-hour workday, hours ÷ 8 = working days. Example: 100 hours ÷ 8 = 12.5 work days. For a 10-hour day it would be 100 ÷ 10 = 10 days. Use the calculator above to instantly compute any combination.
On a standard 8-hour workday, 100 hours equals 12.5 work days. On a 10-hour workday that’s exactly 10 days, and on a 12-hour workday it’s about 8.33 days. The calculator lets you enter any custom hours-per-day value if your schedule differs.
40 hours is exactly 5 work days on an 8-hour schedule (a standard US work week). On a 4×10 compressed schedule it’s 4 days, and on a 12-hour shift it’s about 3.33 days. Overtime hours, PTO hours, and project estimates can all be expressed this way.
80 hours of paid time off equals 10 work days on an 8-hour schedule. That’s a common two-week vacation allotment at most full-time US employers. On a 10-hour workday it would be 8 days, and on a 12-hour shift it’s about 6.67 days.
No. This tool converts pure hours to working days using only your daily hours. It doesn’t subtract weekends, holidays, or company PTO. If you need calendar-day math with weekends and holidays excluded, try the Work Days in a Year Calculator linked below.
A work day is simply the number of daily hours you enter — most commonly 8 (standard US), 10 (4×10 compressed schedule), or 12 (healthcare / shift work). Change the input to match your actual schedule. Part-time schedules (4-hour or 6-hour days) work too.
